SAUL JUNCTION IS ON FOR 2008! We are delighted to be able to tell you that the Saul Junction Canal Festival is definitely on for 2008 and we will be in full attendance. Last year this event was a casualty of the floods that affected much of Gloucestershire. This year, weather permitting, we shall be putting on a full display of static and sailing model boats over the weekend of Saturday 5th and Sunday 6th July. Hope to see you there. For more information visit: AGM ELECTS NEW SECRETARY AND COMMITTEE We held our AGM on Thursday 21st February 2008 and elected our officers and committee for the coming year. We were sorry to say goodbye to Armando Loni who has been our secretary in 2007 but we welcome Peter Pogmore to the post. He can be contacted at the email address given below. We have also appointed, for the first time, a “Race Organiser”, he is Gerry Grint. The full committee met for the first time on 28th February and it is busy organising our calendar and keeping abreast of current issues affecting the Club. * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * Hello and welcome to our website that should give you a little glimpse of the Gloucester and District Model Boat Club and tell you how to contact us and where to see us meeting and sailing our model boats. We will try to keep it as up to date as possible but please feel free to email one of the club officials listed below and they will always be happy to help. This photograph was taken at Gloucester Docks a few years ago and gives some idea of our size and our models! At present we have around 85 members and we meet at a number of sailing venues including Gloucester Docks, Over canal basin (at the Gloucester end of the Herefordshire and Gloucestershire canal) and Saul Junction at the junction of the Gloucester-Sharpness canal and the Stroud Water canal. We also use the irrigation pond of a local farmer near Newent where we have a beautiful model yacht sailing course set up and highly unpredictable winds to go with it! Our Club was founded around 1990 and has grown from a small group of enthusiastic members to around 90 as it stands at present. We should say, at this stage, that the Club only caters for electric, sail and steam powered models and that internal combustion engines are not allowed on any of the Club's sailing waters.
Belonging to a club of like-minded boat modellers is very advantageous in that you will be able to meet other model boaters and enjoy a number of more tangible benefits including:
A regular newsletter and calendar of events. Christmas social event with buffet supper. Summer picnics in the Forest of Dean. Committee meetings to run the Club. Winter social evenings and lectures. Coach trip to the London Model Engineering Exhibition. Negotiation of sailing venues. All-important third-party liability insurance arranged with specialist insurers.
Should you wish to join us as a Member then please turn to our application form. I am sorry that we are not yet into the fully electronic age so you will have to print this off, fill it in with a pen and send it by old-fashioned snail mail complete with a cheque to the address shown!
